A Hollywood Celebration

I love classic Hollywood! That is no secret.

But as I haven't started really watching those movies until a few years ago, I have only now started to dive into the extravaganza of titles the classic Hollywood era contains. Which again means there are so many treasures yet to be discovered!

But I thought,  why not discover some of them together?

Thus I'm dedicating the first days of November to celebrating Classic Hollywood.

Now, the obvious way to do so, is to review a lot of movies of the time, and that is where I need your help, lovely readers:)
Would you like to share some of your favourite classic movies with the blogosphere? Then this is the chance to do so!

According to Wikipedia the Classic Hollywood era is described as movies made in the years 1917-1960, but I'm a little more liberal, so I will say any movie from before 1970 is eligible to be reviewed in this celebration.

If you want to participate and already now know which movie(s) you will be reviewing, do tell me in a comment and I'll add it to the list I'm starting below. It is completely all right to have several reviews of the same movie, but it's also nice to get as big a variety as possible;)

  3. I've watched several old movies recently. I LOVE How to Steal a Million, but I already have my post scheduled for this month. I would love to review some not as famous favorites of my family: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and A Friendly Persuasion.

    1. How To Steal A Million is one of my favourites as well! Now you've got me excited for your review;)
Those 2 movies sound lovely, shall I write you up for reviews of both of them?

    2. Yes, I can those. This is going to be fun. I have been trying to watch more old movies recently, since I've hardly watched any.

  4. This sounds like a marvelous idea, Rose! If I were better at writing reviews I'd commit to writing one right now...but well, I'm not. So I hesitate. Still, I think I might try to write one...

We'll see how it goes. :P

And yay! Buttons! I'll be most happy to take one. :D Thanks, Rose! This should be fun! There are SO many good films from that era.

  5. Ooh, ooh! May I participate? Like Cordy, you'd need to give me a bit to decide which movie(s), but I'd definitely like to join if that's okay!

Maybe I'll even get a chance to watch some new-to-me Classic Hollywood movies before November 1st to widen my range of reviewing options. :)

    2. Okay, I think I'll do It's A Wonderful Life and The Wizard of Oz. Both are movies I've watched since I was very little. Plus the former is likely the movie I've seen more times than any other. :) This will be fun!

    3. Great choices, Meredith! :)

  6. This looks like so much fun! Old movies are the best, are they not?;) I look forward to this! On the subject of old movies, have you seen Magnificent Obsession? (Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson) I just watched it, and was wondering if you had as well.:) (You can watch it on Dailymotion)

    1. I must admit I have never heard of Magnificent Obsession, but looked it up, and it sounds really good. Another movie to add to my "to watch" list:)

I'm glad you approve:) On that subject, I was actually wondering if you would be interested in writing a guest post review for that week? I know it's a lot to ask, and I completely understand if you don't want to/ don't have the time.
But if you want to, it would bring the celebration to a new level:)

    2. Yay! I would love to know your thoughts on it if ever you have the chance.:)

Oh my goodness Rose I feel very flattered. I would love to, but could you explain to me how it would work? I don't have a blog so I'm a total newbie about these things.:) But oh my goodness I am quite excited.

    3. I am so glad you want to do it!!! Just about made my day:)
It's actually a quite easy proccess: you just pick a movie to review (obviously), write the post and then mail it to me (you can insert the post in the mail or just add the file).
      My mail is rosephin90@gmail.com

    4. Aww,thank you Rose! Okay, so I have decided to review "The Reluctant Debutante" which was made in 1958. I've never written a review before--I hope it'll be okay.:) Can I add screen caps to the post? Also, please let me know by what date you need to receive it.:)

    5. Just from the title that movie sounds like one I would enjoy. Good choice:) You can add as many pictures as you want, just include them in the e-mail (maybe with instructions on where in the post you want them placed).
If I have it by October 30th it will be fine.
Can't wait to read your review, Rilla:)

    6. Thanks so much Rose! So I will send it soon, but will probably attach the pictures and instructions in a separate email. Is that okay?

    1. I keep hearing/reading such amazing reviews of "Night of the Hunter." But... I actually quite like Bob Mitchum and have been avoiding watching it because I want to keep liking him :-o

      Delete
    2. That sounds awesome, Quiggy!
I have never watched a Robert Mitchum movie, so it will be fun to learn something new:)

      Delete
    3. Just a note, Rose. You, of course, can list it anyway you want, but when I say "double feature" I mean both will be in the same review post. I've started to get sidetracked too often on my original format for my blog (I.e. a double feature like the old drive-in theaters used to show). Also to Hamlette, if you have seen "Cape Fear" and still like Mitchum, I don't think "Night of the Hunter" is going to scare you off.

      Delete
    4. Quiggy, I don't even *want* to watch Cape Fear. Night of the Hunter does interest me, at least.

      Delete
    5. They used to show 2 movies in a night at drive-ins? That must have been some night!
If the reviews are 1 or 2 posts doesn't matter for the list, it merely shows which movies will be reviewed.

      Delete
    6. The average movie actually made for drive-in showing back in the day didn't run much over an hour and a half. Given a 20 minute break between features that was still less than 3½ hours. you'd be home by midnight if the movies started at dusk. Now the movies i review can be longer. And I may be stretching a point if I had say, The Longest Day and Patton on my fictional drive in (thats almost 6 hours of movies, not including any "coming attractions" before said fictional double feature)

  9. I'm not really very good at reviews, but I qould like to suggest some movies if that's all right!
If you like Gary Cooper (LOVE him) 'High Noon', 'Meet John Doe', 'Mr. Deeds Goes to Town', and 'Sergeant York' are wonderful classics!
Jimmy Stewart is also a favorite of mine, and 'You Can't Take It With You' is a wondeful warm film of his.
His Alfred Hitckock ones are interesting, too, and I really enjoyed, 'The Man Who Knew Too Much.'
:) I've got loads more, but don't want to clutter up yourblog with my comment... ;)

    1. Oh, I love getting suggestions!
I don't think I've ever seen anything with Gary Cooper, but will have to look tose movies up.
I really enjoyed James Stewart in The Man Who Knew Too Much - but I generally love Hitchcock's movies.

Thank you so much for commenting - and don't worry about the length - I love long commetns;)
